At Dr. Richard L. Kofkoff's plastic surgery practice, we offer Missouri breast correction procedures that help to improve upon previous breast surgery in St. Louis that have not produced satisfactory results. The satisfaction and safety of our patients is our main priority, and we are happy to help patients who come to us with problems stemming from a previous procedure.
If you have undergone breast implant surgery and your breasts are not as attractive as they should be, we may be able to help you. There are a number of possible reasons why breasts may not appear as attractive as desired after previous breast augmentation.
Some of the more common complications with breast implants that require some form of revision include:
- Capsular contracture (the development of scar tissue around the implant)
- Improper positioning of the implant
- Wrinkling of the implant
- Implant leakage
- Settling of the implants and/or breast tissue
- Excessive or inadequate size
Missouri breast correction surgery can correct many of the problems that may occur following breast augmentation. Treatment of capsular contracture typically involves removal of the tight scar tissue surrounding the implant and replacement with a new implant. Although recurrence of the contracture is possible, our experience with this problem has been quite positive.
Malposition of the breast implant can be addressed by making alterations in the pocket or, in some cases, creating a new pocket for the implant. Rippling or wrinkling is often a result of thin skin and overlying tissue that can limit our ability to address this issue. However, changing pocket location or the type of implant may result in significant improvement. The type of breast implant revision Dr. Kofkoff performs will be determined by your individual circumstances, your preferences, and his recommendations for you.
It is important to remember when considering breast enhancement that, even when surgery is performed appropriately, problems may arise in the future. All patients should expect that additional procedures may be required as we expect that many implants may leak over time. Having realistic expectations and being well-informed prior to your procedure will reduce the likelihood of future disappointments.
